The global lighting market including Malaysia is undergoing a rapid transformation due to increased concerns on sustainability. The shift towards LED usage as an alternative to conventional lighting such as fluorescent and incandescent lamps has provided opportunities for residential and business consumers to reduce energy consumptions. This practice is not only benefitting economically, but also provide a cleaner environment. With LED, lesser biofuels are burned to generate electricity, causing less pollutant environment.

At present, leaders around the globe have begun to prohibit and phase out the use of incandescent lamps, which are replaced with light emitting diodes (LED) to promote greener environment. This move has appeared to offer a window of opportunities for firms involved with the LED value chain. However, the industry players may be expected to experience some challenges in building and sustaining their competitiveness caused by the rapid technological developments, price competitions, and market dynamics.

In this regard, Malaysia’s infancy in the LED industry may be facing more competition from other Asian counterparts such as China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. In response to this, this book intends to explore the Malaysian LED industry’s issues and challenges. The book also discuss how the best supply chain practice could be implemented by the companies engaged in the LED industry.

Researchers, leaders, policy-makers, and interested individuals who are concerned on the competitiveness of the local LED value chain will find this book beneficial. As the cases presented in this book are based on current and real issues, it is hoped that they could be used to stimulate discussions for learning purposes in the classroom.
