History has greatly proven how prominent and prestigious the Malay language was as the lingua franca of the world. It has been enshrined in Article 152 of the Malaysian Constitution that the Malay language has three main functions: the national language, the official language and the medium of instruction for education. Additionally, the National Education Policy has also enforced the national language as the primary language of instruction for knowledge acquisition. Therefore, this monograph examines the extent of the Malay language empowerment that has been implemented in Public Institutions of Higher Learning (IPTAs) all across Malaysia. The data analysis involves areas of the university’s education, research, publications and administration. The results of the study revealed the current insight of the Malay language usage in the partaking IPTAs as well as instilling hope in the several resolution to mantain and reinforce the Malay language as the primary language of knowledge.
